Department News - Spring 2015

The Tufts Dance Program is pleased to announce that they have received a Tufts SPIRIT award for members of the Origins of 20th Century American Dance course to attend a performance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in March 2015 at the Wang Center. The excursion reinforces course discussion and research in the evolution of modern dance and its intersection with the civil rights movement and fusion of African, Afro-Carribean and classical modern dance forms.

As part of a Tufts Innovates! Grant, students in Jaclyn Waguespack's Dance on Camera course headed to NYC to attend the 43rd Dance on Camera Film Festival at Lincoln Center. During their 2 day trip, students enjoyed several premiere screenings, met with filmmakers and festival curators, and spent a morning filming throughout the city. Check out our Facebook page for some pictures from the trip!

Congratulations to Natalya Baldyga, Ted Simpson, Linda Ross Girard, Brian Lilienthal, and all the cast and crew of our fall 2014 show, From Orchids to Octopi. President Monaco mentioned the production in his February message to the Tufts community as "a highlight of the fall," for "tracing how art and science can both enlighten the human journey." They were joined by colleagues across campus in post-show talk-backs. Many members of the Tufts community participated as audience members – the Drama Department is very grateful for the continued to support of the Arts at Tufts.
