The Circle: Exploring
Self, Imagining Community through the Ring Shout ![]() Broken Box Mime Theater (BKBX) is a collaborative group of artists who tell original stories through mime technique. Set to lights and music, their pieces range from realistic to metaphorical, heart-wrenching to hilarious, cinematic to intimate and everything in between, held together by the belief that great theater requires little ornamentation, only great vision. Without the use of props, sets, costumes, or words, their stories are told only with our bodies. Ultimately, their mission is threefold: to activate the imagination of our audiences, contemporize the art of mime, and remind us all of the power of simple storytelling. Students interested in storytelling, mime technique, and exploring the world of physical theatre attended the workshop, which was hosted by 3Ps and Hype! Mimez. Several BKBX founding artists and member are Tufts alums — as well as past members of Hype! Mimez. Film Lighting Workshop Professor of the Practice Jennifer Burton hosted a workshop with professional gaffer Alex Roy. Students learned about the art of lighting in film. SAG-AFTRA New England Workshop Workshop with key representatives from SAG-Aftra New England! Students learned about working with the professional union of screen actors as a producer or performer. Hosted by Professor of the Practice Jennifer Burton. Girl Talk Theatre The Department in collaboration with Tufts Community Health and 3Ps welcomed Girl Talk Theatre once again this spring. Girl Talk's mission is to use the art of theatre as a tool for empowering homeless, poor and marginalized women. They did a performance followed by a short workshop and Q&A. As part of the visit, students also held a week-long toiletry drive to benefit some of the women that Girl Talk serves. They collected shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, tampons, and other items. Their residency was supported by a Tufts Diversity grant! |
